Elevate the traditional BLT sandwich by piling bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado on a perfectly toasted bagel. This recipe post offers a ton of variations to truly make this sandwich your own masterpiece!

The typical BLT is a beloved sandwich that's delicious to eat in its own traditional way. It's also fun to take the flavors and create something new by swapping regular bread for your favorite savory-flavored bagel and adding avocado that takes this sandwich to a whole new level.

Ingredients & Substitutions
Here are a few helpful tips on the ingredients. For a full list of ingredients, check out the recipe card below.
- Bagel - Use plain, sesame, everything, onion, cheddar or asiago (pictured). Using flavored bagel brings a whole new layer of flavor to the sandwich.
- Bacon - Thick-cut, smoked pork bacon made the easiest way. Change up the flavor by using peppered bacon or turkey bacon.
- Lettuce - A green leaf lettuce with some crunch works best. I love butter or Bibb lettuce, but romaine or iceberg can be used.
- Tomato - Beefsteak or heirloom work great for slicing. If you grow tomatoes in your garden, this is a great way to use them!
- Avocado - Half a ripe Hass avocado. It will give the sandwich some extra creaminess to stand up to the heartiness of the bagel.
- Mayonnaise - Your favorite brand. Play around with flavored mayos and aiolis like chipotle, horseradish or garlic. Use Miracle Whip if that's your flavor preference.
How to Make BLT Bagel Sandwich
1.Toast bagel until desired level of brown. For this sandwich, I toast the bagel lightly to avoid it becoming too dry and crunchy. Spread both sides with mayo. The mayo is the glue that holds this giant sandwich together.
2. Layer lettuce, tomato and avocado on the bottom half of the bagel. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and pepper.
3. Add bacon slices. I like to break the slices in half and lay 3 across one way and the other 3 way for the best bacon coverage possible.
4. Top with top half of bagel and use a serrated knife to cut the sandwich in half.
Serving Tips
Serve the sandwiches immediately after assembling alongside chips, fresh fruit, pasta salad or coleslaw for a delicious lunch or light dinner. Perfect for summertime!
Variations
Breakfast BLT - Add a scrambled, over-easy or sunny-side egg on top
Cheesy BLT - Add a slice of sharp cheddar cheese
Creamy BLT - Swap the mayo for a chive & onion or other flavored cream cheese for a decadent variation
Hummus BLT - Use your favorite hummus instead of or in addition to the mayo
Guac BLT - Homemade or store-bought guacamole can be substituted for avocado to play off the Guac Toast vibe
Club BLT - Add thin slices of deli turkey or ham lunchmeat for play on a club sandwich
Light BLT - Use a bagel thin for less carbs
