Hello! Welcome to The Darling Apron. I'm Ashley, a food blogger, mom, chai tea lover and short-order cook for my family. I come by my love of cooking quite naturally. I grew up hearing stories of my grandma cooking a turkey dinner on a 90 degree day in a wood burning oven wearing a dress, apron and heels. My mom was famous for making dozens of tins of cookies to give away during the holiday season. As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Full disclosure, my outfit of choice is sweats & a t-shirt. I love being connected to others through their recipes that they share at their kitchen table.
After a childhood of kitchen table memories, I began my career working at a small café in my hometown. This helped solidify my desire to pursue something in food as a career. I earned a degree in Hospitality Management and in my spare time in college, I met my husband. Later, I worked in many different facets of the food service industry from resorts, baseball stadiums, catering, and corporate dining.
Undoubtedly, my most difficult and most rewarding job began in 2016 with the birth of my first daughter. The working mom balance is no joke! By the time my second daughter was born in 2018, I could no longer ignore my heart's desire to be a stay-at-home mom. The adjustment was difficult, but at the same time I can say that I have no regrets.
Despite the daily demands of life, I find happiness and peace in the kitchen. I find something truly special in the creation of something that can be shared with others. If I can't deliver a meal to each reader's home, I hope this blog is a good substitute. I find it amazing how a certain meal can stir up a memory or emotion. Cooking is my love language and I believe food is the universal language that brings people together. From a birthday party to a normal evening at home, I'm here to share my ideas and experiences to make these moments good for the stomach and soul.
Above all, I am hopeful that by sharing some of my recipes you will feel inspired to create memories with your family in the kitchen. These memories are something that you can't put a price tag or time limit on. Just think, are your children going to care about how many hours it took you to put together a 6 course meal? Do you have to use your entire food budget to create a special meal? Nope. They are going to remember the great conversations and memories made together around the kitchen table.
Thank you for allowing me into your home. I look forward to the memories we will create together.
