This guacamole toast recipe is essentially avocado toast with the flavor turned up a notch. You can serve it on its own on toasted bread, or pick from a variety of topping ideas for an easy breakfast, snack or light lunch!

Is guacamole toast a thing? Well I sure think so! My family loves guacamole so I thought why not use a basic guacamole recipe as a substitute for otherwise minimally seasoned avocado on traditional avocado toast.
I'm sitting here eating a slice right now and I think you'll love this version!

Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Avocado has a ton of health benefits. That along with a few other basic ingredients makes this a feel-good food!
- The topping ideas and combinations are endless to satisfy a variety of preferences (see ideas below).
- This toast comes together quickly making it a easy go-to choice for when hunger strikes!
Ingredient Notes
Here are a few helpful tips on the ingredients. For a full list and quantity of ingredients, check out the recipe card below.
- Avocado - A ripe Hass avocado is a must for guacamole. Unless I'm making guacamole the day I buy the avocados, I typically look for ones that are more green and hard. I often place them near a windowsill for a couple days and they ripen nicely. As they ripen, they will turn a darker green and get a bumpier texture. You can move them to the fridge once they are ripe to extend their shelf life a few more days.
- Spices - The addition of onion powder, garlic powder and cumin are what distinguishes this toast from normal avocado toast. A pinch of salt enhances the overall flavor.
- Lime juice - Gives the guacamole a hint of acidity and keeps it from turning brown.
- Bread - My favorite to use is sourdough whether it's store-bought or you make your own. Multigrain or your favorite whole wheat bread would also work nicely.
How to Make Guacamole Toast
- Make the guac - Mash the flesh of one avocado in a small bowl. I just use the back of a fork. Add lime juice, spices and salt. Mix until the guacamole reaches its desired consistency. It can be as chunky or smooth as you like.
2. Toast the bread in a toaster until desired color.
3. Assemble - Split the guacamole between the two slices of bread and spread to cover. Enjoy right away!
Variations
This toast is great on its own, but adding some toppings is a fun way to mix it up!
Some topping ideas:
- Sprinkle with Tajin seasoning
- Chopped cilantro
- Pico de Gallo
- Sliced heirloom tomatoes
- Scrambled, fried, poached or sliced hard boiled egg
- Pickled red onions
- Crumbled bacon
- Smoked salmon
Other variations:
- Use the guacamole spread on other "breads" like bagels or English muffins
- Add finely chopped jalapeño for some spice
How to Store Guacamole
Assemble the guac toast right before enjoying, but you can make the guacamole ahead of time and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
The lime juice helps prevent the guacamole from turning brown. When covering bowl with plastic wrap to store, gently press the wrap directly onto the guacamole to also prevent browning.

Guacamole Toast
Ingredients
- 1 ripe avocado
- ⅛ tsp. garlic powder
- ⅛ tsp. onion powder
- ⅛ tsp. cumin
- pinch of salt
- 1 tbsp. lime juice about half a lime
- 2 slices bread
Instructions
- Cut the avocado in half vertically. Remove the pit and using a spoon, scoop out the flesh into a small bowl.1 ripe avocado

- Toast bread slices in toaster until desired color. Divide guacamole mixture between the two slices of bread and spread evenly. Top with any desired toppings or enjoy on its own!2 slices bread
Notes
- A ripe avocado should be dark green on the outside and slightly soft when giving it a light squeeze.
- To speed up the ripening process, place avocados near a windowsill or other sunny area.
- You can also place the avocados in a paper bag with an apple or banana to speed up ripening.
- Once avocados are ripe, transfer them to the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days to slow down ripening until you are ready to use.
- Never cut an avocado in your hands! Work from a cutting board and use a sharp knife to cut around the avocado lengthwise. Then slightly twist the halves until they come apart.
- To remove the pit, you can gently tap the heel of the knife into the pit and twist to remove. You can also use a spoon to gently dig the pit out (might be the safest option).
- My favorite bread for guacamole toast is sourdough. A hearty multigrain or whole wheat bread are other great options.
