Guacamole Toast
This guacamole toast recipe is essentially avocado toast with the flavor turned up a notch. You can keep it simple or pile on toppings for an easy breakfast, snack, or light lunch that actually feels satisfying.

Is guacamole toast a thing? Well I sure think so! My family loves guacamole dip so I thought: why not use a basic guacamole recipe as a substitute for otherwise minimally seasoned avocado on traditional avocado toast.
This is one of those recipes I make when I need something quick but still want it to feel like a real meal.

Ingredient Notes
Here are a few helpful tips on the ingredients. For a full list and quantity of ingredients, check out the recipe card below.
- Avocado - Use a ripe Hass avocado for the best flavor and texture. If you're not using it right away, buy one that's firm and let it ripen on the counter for a few days. Once it's slightly soft and darker in color, it's ready. You can move it to the fridge to keep it fresh a little longer.
- Spices - The addition of onion powder, garlic powder and cumin are what distinguishes this toast from normal avocado toast. A pinch of salt enhances the overall flavor.
- Lime juice - Gives the guacamole a hint of acidity and keeps it from turning brown. Lemon juice would work in a pinch, but lime gives the classic guacamole flavor.
- Bread - My favorite to use is sourdough whether it's store-bought or you make your own. Multigrain or your favorite whole wheat bread would also work nicely.

How to Make Guacamole Toast
- Make the guac - Mash the flesh of one avocado in a small bowl. I just use the back of a fork. Add lime juice, spices and salt. Mix until the guacamole reaches its desired consistency. It can be as chunky or smooth as you like.

2. Toast bread in until desired color.
3. Assemble - Split the guacamole between the two slices of bread and spread to cover. Enjoy right away!
Topping Ideas
This toast is the perfect snack on its own, but adding some toppings is a fun way to take it to the next level!
Some additional topping ideas:
- Sprinkle with Tajin seasoning
- Pinch of red pepper flakes
- Chopped cilantro
- Sliced green onion
- Pico de Gallo
- Sliced heirloom tomatoes
- Pickled red onions
Add some extra protein with:
- Soft-boiled egg or sliced hard-boiled eggs
- Crumbled bacon
- Smoked salmon
Other variations:
- Use the guacamole spread on other sandwiches, bagels or English muffins
- Add finely chopped jalapeño for some spice

How to Store Guacamole
Guacamole toast is best fresh so assemble right before eating. Store leftover guacamole in the fridge for up to 3 days.
The lime juice helps prevent the guacamole from turning brown. When covering bowl with plastic wrap to store, gently press the wrap directly onto the guacamole to also prevent browning.

Guacamole Toast
Ingredients
Method
- Cut the avocado in half vertically. Remove the pit and using a spoon, scoop out the flesh into a small bowl.1 ripe avocado
- Add garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt and lime juice. Mash the avocado with the back of a fork until desired consistency.⅛ tsp. garlic powder, ⅛ tsp. onion powder, ⅛ tsp. cumin, pinch of salt, 1 tbsp. lime juice
- Toast bread slices in toaster until desired color. Divide guacamole mixture between the two slices of bread and spread evenly. Top with any desired toppings or enjoy on its own!2 slices bread
Notes
- A ripe avocado should be dark green on the outside and slightly soft when giving it a light squeeze.
- To speed up the ripening process, place avocados near a windowsill or other sunny area.
- You can also place the avocados in a paper bag with an apple or banana to speed up ripening.
- Once avocados are ripe, transfer them to the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days to slow down ripening until you are ready to use.
- Never cut an avocado in your hands! Work from a cutting board and use a sharp knife to cut around the avocado lengthwise. Then slightly twist the halves until they come apart.
- To remove the pit, you can gently tap the heel of the knife into the pit and twist to remove. You can also use a spoon to gently dig the pit out (might be the safest option).

Tried it with some pico de gallo I had leftover in the fridge and it was a delicious afternoon snack!
