    • Frozen Chocolate Covered Strawberries

What's not better dipped in chocolate? Okay that's a little extreme, but we love to take a seemingly healthy food and dip it in chocolate to make it even better. Who can blame us? Try these Chocolate Covered Oranges for another yummy snack idea!

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • These strawberries have a much longer shelf life than regular chocolate dipped strawberries, which means you can have treats on hand anytime the craving strikes!
    • This recipe is a great way to get kids in the kitchen. The dipping can get messy, but embrace the memories!
    • Strawberry and chocolate are a match made in heaven. The sweet and slightly tart strawberry flavor is balanced perfectly with the rich chocolate. There's good reason why chocolate covered strawberries are so popular!

    Ingredient Notes

This recipe only requires 4 ingredients. You can easily double this recipe by doubling all these ingredients.

    • Strawberries - A pint of fresh strawberries. Look for a container that has similar sized strawberries, if possible. Smaller berries will create the perfect bite-sized treat.
    • White chocolate chips - Which technically isn't even chocolate at all. White chocolate has a creamy, sweet texture and flavor for the first layer of coating.
    • Dark chocolate chips - The most commonly used chocolate when dipping strawberries. Has a rich, more bitter flavor that complements the strawberry and white chocolate perfectly.
    • Coconut oil - Adding coconut oil when melting chocolate is an easy hack to create the desired shell once it hardens. If you grew up in the 90's like me, think magic shell! Use refined coconut oil if you don't want the coconut flavor.
Strawberries cut in half on wooden board, clamshell of berries, cut strawberries drying on paper towel and two bowls of white and dark chocolate chips with coconut oil.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prep the strawberries. Thoroughly wash berries and place on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to dry. You want the berries as dry as possible for dipping.

Remove the stems and cut strawberries in half the long way. After removing the stems and cutting in half, the berry pieces look like little hearts. Perfect for Valentine's Day!

Cut any large strawberries into quarters otherwise they will be difficult to eat.

Line a cookie sheet with parchment or wax paper.

Step 2: Melt the white chocolate. In a microwave safe bowl, add white chocolate and coconut oil. Melt in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted.

Use a fork to dip each strawberry piece in the chocolate until completely coated. Let excess drip off and place on the cookie sheet.

Once all the pieces are dipped, place cookie sheet in the freezer for 15 minutes to set this first layer.

Step 3: Melt the dark chocolate. When the 15 minutes are just about up, repeat the same process with the dark chocolate by adding the chips and coconut oil to a bowl and microwaving until fully melted.

Remove the strawberries from the freezer and dip each piece again to fully coat in the dark chocolate. Place back on the cookie sheet and freeze again for another 15 minutes.

Step 4: Transfer to freezer bag. Once finished, transfer the strawberry bites to an airtight container or bag and keep them in the freezer.

The strawberries are ready to eat after the chocolate fully sets. It will take about an hour for the strawberry to fully freeze, but these bites can be enjoyed anytime after the final 15 minutes.

Note these strawberry bites are meant to be eaten frozen. Thawing them before eating will result in a mushy strawberry center. Eat them right out of the freezer or let them sit out for a few minutes to thaw just slightly before enjoying.

    Variations

    • Switch it up by dipping the dark chocolate first, then the white for a different look
    • Add sprinkles after dipping in the second chocolate for a festive decoration
    • Drizzle some of either the dark or white chocolate over the finished strawberries for an elevated look
    • Semi-sweet or milk chocolate can be used in place of dark chocolate
    • This method also works for other fruits like raspberries, bananas or pineapple. Just be sure to dry the fruit well!

    FAQ

Can chocolate covered strawberries be frozen?

Yes, this recipe totally works and is a new way to enjoy dipped strawberries! They last longer than non-frozen ones, and the frozen texture makes eating them a completely different experience than the typical ones.

Can I make chocolate covered strawberries with frozen strawberries?

Yes. You will want to keep them frozen prior to dipping and make sure there's not a lot of ice build-up. This is a great option if you can't find ripe strawberries.

How long do frozen chocolate covered strawberries last?

Frozen dipped strawberry bites will last in an airtight container or bag in the freezer for up to 3 months although I can almost guarantee they won't last that long!
