Hi, I’m Ashley!

For as long as I can remember, food has been at the center of my life.

I started working in a small-town café when I was just 15 years old, and over the next 15+ years I found myself in just about every corner of the hospitality industry. I waited tables, worked at an historic Lake Superior resort, helped feed thousands from the commissary beneath a professional baseball stadium , coordinated catered events, and eventually managed a busy corporate kitchen as a food service director.

Then life took me in a different direction.

When my second daughter was born, I traded catering schedules for playdates, business clothes for yoga pants, and became a stay-at-home mom. Like so many people, 2020 gave me the push to finally create something of my own.

That’s how The Darling Apron began.

Today, I spend my days creating approachable recipes that help families gather around the table a little more often. My husband, three daughters, and our yellow lab happily serve as my official taste testers, and every recipe you see here has earned a spot in our own family recipe box before it ever reaches yours.

Whether you’re looking for an easy weeknight dinner, a nostalgic casserole, or something special to share with friends, I hope you’ll find recipes here that become part of your family’s traditions, too.

I’m so glad you’re here.

Pineapple chicken stir fry on a white plate over white rice with wooden chopsticks.

Around here, recipes are about more than what’s for dinner. They’re about bringing people together and creating memories around the table.

FAQ

Most of my recipe photos are taken with a Canon 6D and a 50mm f/1.8 lens using natural light (my studio is the floor next to my patio door!)

Most of my grocery shopping happens at ALDI. I love finding quality ingredients at affordable prices, but I’ll also stop at other local grocery stores for specialty items when needed.

To me, an apron represents hospitality. It’s what you tie on before making something for the people you love. I wanted a name that reflects the warmth, comfort, and connection I hope every recipe brings.

Absolutely! Whenever possible, I include ingredient substitutions, storage tips, and make-ahead suggestions to help the recipes fit your family’s needs.

Recipes that have nostalgic memories for me are this Pot Roast and Pork Chop recipes.

While I don’t have a culinary degree, I do have a degree in Hospitality Management and more than 15 years of professional experience in the food and hospitality industry. From restaurant kitchens and catering to managing large-scale food service operations, those experiences shaped the way I develop recipes today – approachable, reliable, and made for real life.
