Ingredients

  • 2 apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith
  • 3 tablespoon cold butter divided
  • ¼ cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 teaspoon flour
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • pinch of salt
  • ¼ cup chopped pecans optional

Method

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees.
  2. Cut apples in half stem-to-stem. Use an apple corer or melon baller to remove core and seeds. Brush entire apple halves with 1 tbsp. melted butter. I also like to cut a small slice off the "bottom" of each apple halves so they sit straight in the air fryer.
  3. In a small mixing bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, spices, flour and pecans. Cut remaining 2 tbsp. cold butter into the oat mixture until there are no dry spots. (Hands work best)
  4. Divide oat filling between the 4 apples halves, pressing the filling into the center of the apple. Place in air fryer basket.
  5. Air fry the apples 15-20 minutes until the apples are soft and the topping is browned and crunchy. Check apples after 15 minutes as cooking times can vary depending on air fryer.

Notes

  • Serve warm with whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream on top.
  • A good, crisp baking apple is key.  A crisp apple will bake nicely without getting overly mushy. Some great choices are Honeycrisp, Braeburn, Granny Smith, Pink Lady or Cortland.
