About Me
Hi, I'm Ashley!
I'm a mom to three girls, proud Minnesotan, and the apron-wearing food-lover behind The Darling Apron.
Around here, you'll find approachable, flavor-packed recipes that make it easier (and more fun) to get a meal on the table. My goal? Help you create dishes that feel like home, spark conversation, and maybe even start a new family tradition.

The Short Story
- I have a degree in Hospitality Management
- 15+ years of real-life food service experience
- Mom-tested recipes that pass the "no whining" test
- Comfort-food obsessed (hotdish forever)
Before The Darling Apron
I've done a little bit of everything in food service. I started work at 15 in a small-town café waitressing, food prepping and short-order cooking. During college, I spent a summer in the food & beverage department at a popular MN resort with a spectacular view. My first job out of college was working in the commissary in the depths of a professional baseball stadium where the nacho cheese flowed like a river.
From there, I shifted into a catering admin role (think: spreadsheets, buffets, and edible flower garnishes) before becoming a food service director at a corporate dining hall, managing busy kitchens and feeding hundreds a day.
It was a wild ride, and it taught me exactly how to keep food tasty, people happy, and chaos in check. Skills I bring to every recipe you'll find here.
Making the Switch to SAHM
When my second daughter was born, I realized my days were more about packing diaper bags than kitchen prep lists. I traded my business attire coat for yoga pants, swapped spreadsheets for snack schedules, and took on my most challenging (and rewarding) role yet: stay-at-home mom.
And when 2020 turned the world upside down, I needed a creative outlet that combined my love of food with my new season of life. That's when The Darling Apron was born. It's part recipe box, part love letter to the magic of family mealtime.
These days my "co-workers" and expert taste-testers are my husband, three daughters, and a yellow lab who thinks he deserves his fair share.
Why I Cook
Food is my favorite love language. It's the smell of my favorite casserole in the oven, the sound of kids giggling at the table, and the look on someone's face when they take a bite and say, "Oh my gosh… this is so good." or "This tastes just like Grandma used to make!" The ultimate compliment.
What You'll Find Here
Around here, recipes have two main jobs: taste amazing and fit into real life. You can expect dishes that are:
- Simple but special - Quick enough for a Tuesday night, yet good enough to serve when company shows up.
- Family-approved - Recipes that pass the picky-eater test (no bribery required… most of the time).
- Flavor-packed - Because bland food has no place at my table.
- Rooted in nostalgia - The kind of recipes that feel like a hug from Grandma.
If it's been tested in my kitchen, you can trust it's doable, delicious, and ready to earn its place in your recipe box.
Let's Stay in Touch
