A fudgy brownie that is filled with smooth, creamy caramel. You'd never know these are made with boxed chocolate cake mix!

Ingredients
  

  • 11 oz. bag caramels
  • cup evaporated milk divided
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • ¾ cup butter melted
  • 1 cup nuts chopped
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Place caramels and ⅓ cup evaporated milk in a small saucepan & melt over medium heat, stirring often.
  3. In a mixing bowl combine cake mix, ⅓ cup evaporated milk, butter and nuts. Pat down half of batter into bottom of 9x13 pan. Bake for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove pan from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the bottom crust. Pour melted caramels over chocolate chips.
  5. Dab remaining batter on top. It's okay to see some of the caramel and chocolate chips poking through.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Any chocolate cake mix will work
  • Caramels could also be melted with evaporated milk in the microwave. Place them in a microwave safe bowl and melt in one minute intervals, stirring in between, until smooth
  • For nuts, I like to use either pecans or walnuts
