- 4 apples (I use honeycrisp) about 1.5 pounds
- 2 tbsp. white sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ½ tsp. ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp. lemon juice
- 2 tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- ½ cup salted butter melted, 1 stick
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom and sides of a 8x8 baking dish with softened butter.
Prepare apples by peeling, coring and slicing them into ¼ inch slices.
Place apples in a mixing bowl and add both sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice & cornstarch. Toss well. Pour into greased baking dish.
In a separate bowl combine cake mix and melted butter, the mixture will be crumbly. Evenly sprinkle topping over the apple mixture.
Place baking dish on a sheet pan to catch any leaks and bake 40-45 minutes until the top is golden brown.
Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream!
To reheat the whole pan, place in a 350 degree oven for about 15 minutes. For individual servings you can also microwave each serving in 30 second intervals until warmed through.
Other baking apples that would work for this recipe: Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Braeburn, Golden Delicious, Fuji or Gala.
